Health Is More Than a Collection of Symptoms
People often seek acupuncture because of pain, digestive issues, poor sleep, stress, hormonal changes, or another specific concern.
Yet many discover these concerns are connected in ways they had never considered before.
One of the most beautiful aspects of Classical Chinese Medicine is that it looks beyond isolated symptoms to understand how the body’s different systems influence one another.
Rather than asking only “Where does it hurt?”, it also asks “Why is the body expressing itself this way?”
That understanding becomes the foundation for treatment.
Welcome to Balance Acupuncture
Hi, I’m Julia (Zhu, Ya) Gabriel, Registered Acupuncturist.
My work is rooted in Classical Chinese Medicine and Balance Method Acupuncture, viewing the body as an interconnected whole rather than a collection of isolated symptoms.
After years of practice in Vernon and Kelowna, I recently relocated to South Surrey and now practise in South Surrey / White Rock and Langley.
People come for many reasons—including pain, digestive concerns, sleep difficulties, stress, emotional health, women’s and men’s health, respiratory concerns, and other long-standing health patterns—but my goal remains the same:
To understand where the body is today and support its natural ability to regulate, adapt, and restore balance.
Understanding Comes Before Treatment
Every treatment begins with understanding your individual pattern.
Rather than matching symptoms to a standard protocol, I take time to understand how different systems within your body are interacting today. This includes listening carefully to your health history, along with pulse and tongue assessment, to build a broader picture of your health.
Many patients tell me this feels very different from previous healthcare experiences.
“Julia couldn’t believe how thorough she was in asking numerous questions about my health history. She covered everything.”
“Julia’s approach is integrative and treats the mind and body as a whole.”
A Whole-System Perspective
Pain, digestion, sleep, emotions, hormones, breathing, and many other concerns are often viewed as separate problems.
From a Classical Chinese Medicine perspective, they may instead reflect different expressions of the same underlying imbalance.
Rather than chasing symptoms one by one, treatment looks at how these systems influence one another.
As the body’s balance changes, people often notice improvements beyond the concern that originally brought them in.

What Patients Often Tell Me
Every person’s experience is unique, but over the years, many patients have described similar themes after treatment. These words belong to them—not to me.
